Neoliberal Symposium – Agenda
September 6 + 7, 2024, at the Ideal Spaces foundation venue in Karlsruhe/Germany
The event will be in person and online.
At the present time, we have succeeded to engage a selected group of international experts on the topics of the evolution of the neoliberal agenda, together with its impacts on community and society today. Our presenters will include Wendy Brown/USA, Judit Bodnar/Austria, Aysegul Can/Turkey, Juan Pablo Rodriguez/Chile, John M. Roberts/UK, Loveneet Thakur/India, Benda Hofmeyr/South Africa; more information to come. As of now, the program is as follows:
- Theme 1: Neolib. Agenda, & Ideology of Neoliberalism – basic concepts, and their implementation in real life
- Theme 2: Neolib. City – how neoliberalism affects urban spaces/community
- Theme 3, Consumerism and Imagined Communities – are profit-driven social media just a form of pseudo-communities?
In most cases, the issue is primarily looked at from a Western perspective. In our symposium, we will deliberately include views from participants outside the West, focusing on different situations and perspectives. In addition, the impact of the neoliberal agenda on authoritarian urbanism will be addressed, of regimes which have an increasing impact, not confined to economics.
